We are now officially into Valentine's week in 2022 and couples in love and those who are yet to profess their fondness, passion, and devotion for their beloved ones will be sending signals in all known ways. Similarly, Tamil cinema has served as fodder for hearts to come together and we have been a witness to several memorable love proposal scenes over the years. In that light, there have been a number of proposal scenes that 90s' and 2K kids have frequently expressed their admiration and adoration for.

1) Padayappa
The moment when 'Superstar' Rajinikanth (Padayappa) makes the first move and expresses his love for the late Soundarya (Vasundhara), we not only get to witness cute and adorable moments between the two, but the scenario as a whole in itself is unique for being funny. Without going overboard, we see how Rajinikanth makes attempts to woo Soundarya, but comes across one obstacle after the other. Despite being unable to convey his feelings for her, Vasundhara realizes Padayappa's love even though he is never able to propose to her till the end.

It's love at first sight for Kamal Haasan (DCP Raghavan IPS) when he sees Kamalinee Mukherjee (Kayalvizhi) and his proposal has got to be one of the best ever in recent years in Tamil cinema. The moment when Kayalvizhi queries Raghavan how much time did it take him to come forward with his proposal, his statement that he would have declared his love for her within two minutes after seeing her not only leaves her blushing but also the audience going Awwwww.
3) Alaipayuthey
There are several scenes where Madhavan (Karthik) courts Shalini (Shakthi) in Alaipayuthey, but the most memorable for fans is undoubtedly at a suburban railway station. In this scene, we see Karthik getting out of a running train and expressing his love in a quirky manner to Shakthi in less than a minute. The manner in which Maddy professes his love for Shalini without actually openly saying those three magical words, "I love you", in a short space of time continues to be reminisced by everyone.
4) Kandukondain Kandukondain
A defining moment in Kandukondain Kandukondain is when Ajith Kumar as (Manohar) confesses his love for Tabu (Sowmya) when they're traveling in a car. However, that moment has its fruition towards the end of the film when Manohar visits her home but is sent back heartbroken after asking for her hand in marriage. Having said that, the two unite in one of the most iconic moments in Tamil cinema when Ajith is standing on the street trying to catch a glimpse of Tabu on her balcony, with the latter eventually giving her nod with a tearful smile.
5) Sethu
Vikram (Sethu) goes head over heels right from the moment he sees Abitha (Abitha) in his college and walks the extra mile to earn a name for himself in her heart. However, each of his attempts end up in failure, mostly in a funny manner, which only adds fuel to the fire. It reaches the boiling point when Sethu kidnaps Abitha and takes her to an undisclosed location where we see him struggling to express his feelings. The scene ends up being an emotional one and pierces into our hearts like a dagger showing us the extreme lengths one can go to show their unparalleled devotion.
6) Vaaranam Aayiram
There are instances during a train journey when youngsters will want to be seated next to a beautiful girl. And, that indeed becomes a reality when Sameera Reddy (Meghna) enters the same compartment Suriya (Suriya) is traveling in and the rest is history. It's the Love Express from that point on and we see Suriya chasing Meghna to the ends of the Earth before he goes to America where she eventually realizes her own love for him and accepts his proposal.
7) Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa
No time is wasted in introducing Silambarasan (Karthik) where he is seen standing outside his house when the homeowner's daughter played by Trisha (Jessie) enters the abode and into his life. And, it's magic for Karthik from that point on as he professes his love for Jessie the next day when he tries to strike a conversation before she says that she will tell people he is her brother, in the event anyone asks her who he is. We next see Karthik telling Jessie that he is willing to consider any woman as his sister except her. The scene not only makes her stop her from walking for a moment, but is synonymous with the fear of rejection that every youngster has.
8) 3
3 has one of the most defining proposal scenes in Tamil cinema when Dhanush (Ram) arrives on the doorstep of Shruti Haasan (Janani) and asks her if she indeed loves him. When she asks him to go wait at the place where he usually does after the school tuition, he cuts to the chase telling her that he won't have to wait if she outright rejects him then and there itself. Janani eventually tells Ram that she loves him and asks him to wait for him at their tuition. The scene received praise from audiences of all age groups for being as sweet as possible and also tugging on our heartstrings.
9) 7G Rainbow Colony
We witness the activities of Ravi Krishna (Kathir) and his desperate attempts to woo Sonia Agarwal (Anita) before her beau sends a few thugs to beat him up before the film’s intermission. When they warn him not to trouble her any more, he obliges but also informs them that her beau is no good himself. What follows is not one of the best fight sequences in Tamil cinema, but also a proposal scene that continues to since gone on to become memorable. The moment after the rumble when Kathir is standing in the rain at the bus stop and Anita starts to walk away from him, we see him telling how disgusted she must feel to stand beside her, yet sharing his feelings for her and expressing how much he adores her. What follows is Anita having a change of heart to Kathir's unconventional proposal and the beginning of love blossoming in her heart.
10) Kaavalan
What starts as a prank call from Asin (Meera), who poses as 'Ammukutty', and toys around with 'Thalapathy' Vijay (Bhoominathan), ends up changing both their lives. Throughout the story, we get to see each of them develop feelings for one another before Bhoomi decides to take the big plunge and propose to Ammukutty despite having not seen her since childhood. When Meera, who has been posing as Ammukutty, queries Bhoomi, as to if he would find her not to be beautiful, his declaration that beauty is in the beholder's eye and that he would accept her decision, leaves her in tears for playing the game she indulged in. Likewise, the moment when Bhoomi decides to 'practice' his proposal with Meera thinking she is Ammukutty, and his sincere words thereafter that he delivers, leaves audiences smiling with tears in their eyes.
