Kannada director Prashanth Neel became a national sensation after the blockbuster success of his K. G. F: Chapter 1, released towards the end of 2018. The period action film, starring 'Rocking Star' Yash, is the first installment in the series, with the sequel K. G. F: Chapter 2 currently being shot, is nearing a finish in its production. KGF: Chapter 1, which became the highest-grossing Kannada film of all-time, was incidentally dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi, and received an astounding response from fans across the nation. Produced under Vijay Kiragandur’s Hombale Films banner, KGF: Chapter 2 will see Yash squaring off with Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt, whose character Adheera was teased in the first installment. 

Having said that, there were wide speculations sometime back regarding what KGF director Prashant Neel's plans would be for his next. There were reports a while back stating that he would be teaming up either with Prabhas or Jr NTR from Telugu for a pan-Indian film. Having said that, Vijay Kiragandur’s Hombale Films has now officially announced that they will indeed be joining hands with Prashant Neel once again after their KGF franchise, for an action film with Baahubali star Prabhas in the lead role. The upcoming film has been announced to be titled as Salaar, with Prabhas in the titular role. A first look poster has also been released by Hombale Films along with the caption, "#Prabhas in #SALAAR THE MOST VIOLENT MEN.. CALLED ONE MAN.. THE MOST VIOLENT!! Prabhas' Salaar with KGF director Prashant Neel has been described by Hombale Films as an action saga and will likely be more than one film, akin to the pan-India superstar's Baahubali films. Prabhas is riding the wave as he is currently a part of a line of mega budget films starting with director Radha Krishna Kumar's period romantic film Radhe Shyam opposite Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo star Pooja Hegde, followed by the tentatively titled Prabhas 21 with Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan under Mahanati director Nag Ashwin and the highly ambitious Adipurush, which will see him face off Saif Ali Khan, who has been cast as the antagonist, with Om Raut serving as the director. 

Salaar will also be a massive film for Prashant Neel, who impressed fans and critics with his fictional take on the Kolar Gold Fields in KGF: Chapter 1, with expectations for the sequel KGF: Chapter 2 high since the release of the first film. We can expect production on Salaar to kick off sometime in 2021 once KGF 2 is released and Prabhas completes his Radhe Shyam after which he will most likely be shuffling between Prabhas 21 and Adipurush.
