Mani Ratnam’s highly anticipated historical epic, Ponniyin Selvan, has finally been released today (September 30) amidst huge expectations and the film has taken a humongous opening at the box office. The hype for the film doubled and tripled in the last 10 days, making the film a solid blockbuster even before its release. The advance bookings have been terrific for the film and this momentum is expected to continue for the next two weeks for sure. Nikilesh Surya, the Managing Director of Rohini Silver Screen, took to his official Twitter page to reveal the status of the phenomenal advance bookings.

Nikilesh Surya mentioned that more than 36000 tickets have been sold out in advance at Rohini, thereby earning the credit of being the all time highest pre booked movie. He tweeted, “#PonniyinSelvan What a feat! Over 36000 tickets sold in advance @RohiniSilverScr comfortably positioned as ALL TIME HIGHEST pre booked movie. Going to be a tough record to beat this!”. This is indeed a huge feat and it looks like Ponniyin Selvan will truly be the pride of Tamil cinema. The film has taken a grand opening and it is sure to have recorded a double digit number on its first day.

Ponniyin Selvan features Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles, while the supporting cast includes the likes of Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Rahman, Kishore, Jayaram, Lal, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Chidambaram, Riyaz Khan, and others. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions on a grand scale in association with Madras Talkies, the film has music composed by A.R.Rahman and cinematography handled by Ravi Varman. The first part of Ponniyin Selvan has now opened big and it is now time for the fans and film buffs to look forward to the second part which is slated for release in the summer of 2023.
