The stage is set for the grand release of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2, which is scheduled for a royal premiere in theatres on April 28. The sequel to the 2021 blockbuster, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, the upcoming epic historical action adventure film produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies and featuring music composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman will tie into the events from the first installment, which ended on a cliffhanger note. With less than a week now for the release of PS: 2, the makers have now released a 10-second promo for the chart-topping hit 'Aga Naga' song picturized on Karthi and Trisha.

Sung by Shakthisree Gopalan to the lyrics written by Elango Krishnan, the first glimpse of the 'Aga Naga' song in PS: 2 shows Karthi and Trisha reprising their roles Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai once again. The song, although did not feature in Ponniyin Selvan: 1, was teased during the sequence where both the characters first meet, thus becoming a love anthem among fans and a huge hit even before its release. The 'Aga Naga' song released in its entirety from Ponniyin Selvan: 2 has since become a phenomenal success and is yet another feather in the cap for the A. R. Rahman-Mani Ratnam combo.
Based on acclaimed Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's books, Ponniyin Selvan has been a dream project for Mani Ratnam and audiences poured their love for the filmmaker's ambitions with the spectacular feedback to the first installment, which minted over 500 crores at the worldwide box office. Apart from Karthi and Trisha, Ponniyin Selvan: 2 also sees the lead star cast reprising their roles among whom include 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Aishwarya Lekshmi as Poonguzhali, Sobhita Dhulipala as Vaanathi and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in dual roles as Nandini and Mandakini.
