Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is one of the most anticipated films that is set to be released in theatres on April 28. The film had created a huge excitement as the first part of the film that was released last year was a blockbuster hit across India. It is called the Magnum Opus of Mani Ratnam based on books written by Kalki. The film revolves around the Chola Empire’s battle for the throne and the Pandiyas who are trying to rise in power. The huge cast of Ponniyin Selvan including Vikram, Jayam Rai, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala are on tour promoting the film in major cities across India.

The production houses bankrolling the film, Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, have released a new poster ahead of the release of the film. The posters show that PS: 2 or Ponniyin Selvan: 2 will be released in IMAX. It has the caption “Experience it in IMAX”. The poster shows Arulmozhi Varman and Vallavarayan Vandhiyadevan riding their horses amidst fiery orange skies, wearing armour. The poster also shows huge crowd holding flags in the back in silhouette showing it could be a battlefield.

The Ponniyin Selvan: 2 poster raises speculation that it could be hinting the death of a major character as it does not feature the crown prince of the Chola empire Aditha Karikalan, played by Vikram. The initial poster that was released before the audio launch of the film also hinted a major character's death as it features a bloodied sword. In the first part of Ponniyin Selvan, Aditha Karikalan is shown as a rage-filled warrior who wants to conquer more land and bring them under the Chola Empire. He also refuses to turn back though his beloved sister Kundhavai asks him to. The trailer of the film showed Aditha Karikalan returning to Kadambur because his Nandini asks him to come and she also takes an oath to kill him. The trailer ends with Aditha Karikalan standing at the end of the sword and Nandini holding it. As the poster set in the battle-field does not feature Aditha Karikalan who was seen in battle from his introduction in Ponniyin Selvan: 1, it raises questions. Does this mean that Aditha Karikalan will die? In battle-field or by Nandini’s hands? are Arulmozhi Varman and Vandhiyadevan avenging his death? People would have to wait and watch the film to find the answers.
