The film did not just take over the screens in India but also performed extremely well with the audience overseas too. The film went on to become one of the few movies to hit the 300 crores mark at the box office. A new update has come and this time the film hit a new milestone as it continues to achieve milestones in its box office journey.
Recently, it crossed the 450 crores mark while its current worldwide total stands at 456.30 crores. The makers of the film made this grand announcement through the official Twitter handle of Lyca productions. The film now stands as the second highest-grossing Kollywood film of all time. The first spot is held by Superstar Rajinikanth starter 2.0 at a whopping 800 crores. PS 1 also holds the crown of being the highest-grossing Kollywood film of 2022 surpassing Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram’s 426 crores gross.
Ponniyin Selvan: I got a worldwide theatrical release on September 30 in both the standard and IMAX formats. Upon its release, the film received high critical acclaim from fans and film critics alike, who praised the direction, performance of the cast, musical score, visuals, and faithfulness to the novel.
Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponnyin Selvan: l is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast consisting of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, and R. Parthiban. The music was composed by Isaipuyal A. R. Rahman, with cinematography by Ravi Varman, editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, and production design by Thota Tharani.
