She was dragged into the controversy after a Karnataka-based lawyer filed sedition charges against her for her speech on Pakistan's hospitality at the SAARC Youth Summit in the neighbouring country.
"I don't have any ego at all and in any given incident, I would have apologised, but if I do in this case, the larger cause we're fighting for would go," she was quoted saying when asked about the charges filed against her.
