Chennai and its surrounding parts of Tamilnadu are seeing the worst rainfall in its history. The city has come to a standstill mode by the unrelenting rains in the last few days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit parts of Chennai and its neighbouring parts through helicopter today. Terming the situation as alarming, Modi announced Rs 1000 Cr assistance to Tamil Nadi in addition to the 940 Cr package announced last week.

At least 269 people have died since the devasting rains, which is the heaviest in more than 100 years, began last week forcing people to leave their submerged homes. The airport has also been shut down its operations till December 6  due to flooding.
