Pithamagan was a critically acclaimed movie that was released in 2003. It was directed by Bala who has also done many critically acclaimed films like Sethu, Paradesi, Thara Thappattai, Naachiyaar etc. The film was bankrolled by Evergreen Movies International with VA Durai as its head. The production house also produced other acclaimed projects like Gajendra. VA Durai was also the executive producer of Rajinikanth’s Baba. The situation has changed now as the living situation of the producer has become bad. VA Durai is now bed-ridden for five months with severe injuries on his leg, with no family and little to no money to spend for hospital and medical expenses.
In an exclusive interview with Galatta Media, The producer revealed that Director Bala cheated him by not giving back Rs.25 lakhs that he got as advance. The anchor then asked him who is helping him now. The producer revealed "only Actor Surya has helped me in the hospital and no one else helped me". As the anchor asked if 'Superstar' Rajinikanth had helped him as he was an executive producer of Baba. VA Durai said "I am looking forward to help from Rajinikanth and that only media people should take my request to him". The producer then said he doesn’t even have a house to stay.
VA Durai revealed that "Director Bala said he will finish Pithamagan movie in four and half crores but it took 13 crores to finish the film. He said "I trusted the director at first as he spoke like a good person but he rejected me immediately after I became ill". He said Bala is responsible for the condition 100%. Speaking about Rajinikanth and his friendship, he said Rajnikanth is a good, very kind and helpful person and no other actors are there like him. He said Rajinikanth does not know about his situation now and it has not reached him that why he has not helped him. He then went on to tell that "SP Muthuraman and the iconic director are both great people and there's no one else like them". VA Durai has worked in many films with Superstar. He then advised young producers to be vigilant in making films.
