Pichaikkaran 2 is not a direct sequel to the 2016 blockbuster, Pichaikkaran, and is a standalone film with new characters, Vijay Antony had revealed prior to the release a few days back. The film was initially slated to come out in theatres as a grand summer release in April but was later pushed to May 19 owing to Vijay Antony's injury during shooting in Langkawi, Malaysia, and the post-production works that required to be completed. The composer-turned-actor had sustained severe injuries to his face during filming a song in Pichaikkaran 2 a few months back and revealed recently in an exclusive interview to Galatta that his jaw had gone inside, while around 8-9 plates have been placed on his face.
With Pichaikkaran 2 and Bichagadu 2 taking a strong start at the box office, it remains to be seen how much longer the film continues to keep up the momentum. It is to be noted that the film's Kannada and Malayalam versions, Bhikshuka 2 and Bhikshakkaran 2, are yet to be released in theatres and we can expect an announcement on the same in the days ahead. Apart from directing and starring in the lead role, Vijay Antony has composed the music for Pichakkaran 2, which also includes Kavya Thapar as the female lead, with Dato Radha Ravi, Y Gee Mahendran, Mansoor Ali Khan, Hareesh Peradi, John Vijay, Dev Gill, Yogi Babu, among others appearing key roles.
