Award-winning Tamil actor-filmmaker Parthiban's latest venture, Iravin Nizhal, billed to be the world's first non-linear single-shot film, had released in theatres last week (July 15) and has been basking in critical glory, with fans as well showering their praises on social media. The indie thriller has been the talk of the town for all the right reasons, while also getting called out by film critic Blue Sattai Maran, who himself had made his directorial debut with Anti-Indian last year. Maran had accused Parthiban for promoting Iravin Nizhal as the world's first single-shot non-linear film while claiming that the 2013 Iranian venture, Fish & Cat, was the first to have been filmed as such.
Reacting to Blue Sattai Maran's claims, Parthiban gave a lengthy reply as a form of clarification, while sharing a review of Iravin Nizhal. In his explanation on Twitter, the National Award winner responded by saying that he accepts all the reviews that come his way with immense respect and urged fans to watch his 'friend' Blue Sattai Maran's review of his latest film before seeing it in theatres. Parthiban went on to state that the film mentioned by the Anti-Indian director has not been arranged in a 'non-linear' sequence, but praised the latter for pointing him out as 'more intellectual' while drawing a comparison with himself. The Oththa Seruppu director also queried Maran as to why he had not raised his views earlier as he had been promoting the film as the 'world's first non-linear shot movie' for more than a year. Iravin Nizhal is special for Parthiban as it is his first time collaborating with Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, who is yet another major highlight in the film, with fans and critics raving about his work in the songs as well as the background score. The film also stars Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Robo Shankar, Priyanka Ruth, Brigida Saga, Sneha Kumar, Anand Krishnan, Chandru among others in supporting roles, while the technical team includes Oscar-winning sound editor Craig Mann, followed by Cottalango Leon as the VFX Supervisor, cinematographer Arthur A. Wilson, and art director RK Vijai Murugan.
