Padi Azhaithen: Lyrical and musical delight

Padi Azhaithen, a programme on Tamil film songs focusing on lyrics and melody was launched on 15th August 2010 and is being aired on Makkal TV. This is unique and a first of its kind in TV channels. The significance of lyrics and melody in contributing to the succes of songs and movies is discussed in the programme.

Mervin Michael, a music director and singer in Tamil films, is the host along with this programme with lyricist G. Krishna Kumar; Ashwin Johnson provides the background music score. Keeping the local rustic style and people in the forefront, the Dravidian lifestyle, love, romance, bravery, self confidence, affection, principles and songs on revolutions are the main focus of this programme which is aired every Sunday at 9.30 a.m. on Makkal TV.

Speaking to Galatta.com, Michael said "This is a unique format and we want to showcase the melodies of yesteryears and also highlight the importance of good lyrics in the success of these songs. So far we have done shows with Sreeni, Tippu, Ganga, T.K. Kala, Vijai Yesudas, S.P. B.Charan, Prasanna, Roshini, Sriram Vyas and many more singers. The second round of shooting for the programme will start on November 26th with SPB. The TRP ratings will go up due to this programme. Padi Azhaithen has become an instant hit among the masses who love melodies and love to listen to good lyrics."
