In tragic news, veteran Odia film and theatre actor Raimohan Parida was found hanging at his residence in Bhubaneswar, on Friday. He was 58. According to reports, Parida's family members found him hanging from a rope attached to the ceiling in his room in the early morning hours at his home in the Prachi Vihar area. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide and have launched an investigation while sending the body for post-mortem examination. He is survived by his wife Ranjita and two daughters.
The news of Parida's demise has sent shockwaves in the Odia film and entertainment industry, with many personalities visiting his residence to pay their condolences and last respects. He is best remembered for his portrayal of negative roles and has appeared in over 100 Odia and 15 Bengali films. Parida's co-star in several films, Siddhanta Mahapatra, expressed his shock at his passing and said, "It is hard to believe that such a jolly person, who has experienced several ups and downs in life, can think of doing something like this. He was highly successful in the profession."
Hailing from the Keonjhar district in Odisha, Raimohan Parida's most memorable film appearances include Aasibu Kebe Saji Mo Rani, Kandhei Aakhire Luha, Kulanandan, Rana Bhumi, Rama Laxman, Udandi Sita, Singha Bahini, Naga Panchami and Tu Thile Mo Dara Kahaku to name a notable few. Speaking to the media, his neighbors stated that they met him on Thursday and noticed him to be his usual and happy self, with many adding that he was friendly with everyone. Niranjan Patnaik, former State President of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee tweeted, "Shri #RaimohanParida will be remembered for his versatile acting. He will be loved and admired for years to come. Pained by his demise. May his soul rest in peace."
