Meera Jasmine receives Srividya award
Popular South Indian actress Meera Jasmine was presented the first Srividya award for the best actress in Malayalam films by minister N.K. Premachandran in a function at Thiruvanthapuram on the second death anniversary (October 19) of actress Srividya.
Meera Jasmine got this award for her performance in the Mammootty starrer Ore Kadal, directed by Shyamaprasad. Earlier, she also won the Filmfare awards (2008) for her performance in the same movie which examines the extra-martial relationship between an intellectual economist and a housewife.
K.B. Ganesh Kumar M.L.A, popular Malayalam actor and the chairman of the MLV Srividya Charitable Society, who was with Srividya during her last moments, said that Srividya was a person who helped many without expecting any publicity or reward.
Ganesh Kumar also revealed that from next year, cancer patients from poor families, especially women who come for treatment at Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvanthapuram, would be given financial aid from the foundation. Srividya Music award was given to young musician N.J. Nandini. Director K. Madhu and Principal Secretary T. Balakrishnan attended the function.
