Matt Damon: Good Parenting
Matt Damon and wife Luciana have three children together – newborn Gia, 2-year-old Isabella and 10-year-old Alexia. Born into an affluent family, the girls do not know what it is to be deprived of the bare necessities, leave alone luxuries. Matt, who is well known and commended for his charitable work, vows that as a parent he will school his girls about the underprivileged and inculcate in them the quality of giving.
"Poverty is a hard thing to explain to a kid," Damon said at a San Francisco fundraiser for the OneXOne children's charity on Thursday. "And it is also unbelievable the way other kids are forced to live. The way you have to parent them is to show them the world. Explaining the world can only go so far," he said. "You can read about devastation every morning – it's on the front page of the newspaper – but when you actually go there and see it, you realize this isn't something you can turn the page on."
When they are old enough to understand what’s going on around them, Matt promises to take them on his charitable missions so they can see for themselves what suffering there is in the world, and how they can help in their own small way.
