As Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is set to release in 10 days, the cast of the film is on tour to major cities across India for promotions. They addressed the press and media and answered some interesting questions in Chennai on 17th April. During the press meet, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram, Sobhiita Shulipala, Mani Ratnam, Trisha, Karthi and Jayam Ravi were present. A reporter asked about the possibility of making the Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel Velpari written by Su Venkatesan into a film. Maniratnam started saying “I think that..”. Vikram interrupted and said “Already Shankar sir has got the rights I guess”. The director then said “One of my friends is going to make it into a film. Let's Wait and watch. I am also waiting to see it.” This confirmed that Velpari which is about a Tamil king who was not a part of the Chola, Chera or Pandian kingdoms is in the cards.
"As Ponniyin Selvan also did well in box office and Sivagamiyin Sabatham, Parthiban Kanavu books are also there, do you think, this success will be a beginning for making these books into films", asked a reporter. Mani Ratnam replied, “I hope this will be a beginning because in Tami literature and History, there are many possibilities. So, I am positive that many directors will take up such stories."
