Reacting to the protest by distributors yesterday seeking compensation for the losses incurred through Kadal, Mani Ratnam has clarified that Madras Talkies had sold the rights of the film to Gemini Industries and Imaging Ltd. in March 2012 itself, on Minimum Guarantee basis, and that it is not responsible for the losses incurred by the distributors. He further added that Madras Talkies had no other dealing with anyone else for the distribution of their film, nor has been party to any contracts Gemini might have entered into in this regard.

Kadal features debutants Gautham Karthik and Thulasi in the lead roles, with Arjun, Arvind Swamy and Lakshmi Manchu playing important roles. Music has been composed by A.R. Rahman.
