Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan is the next big pan Indian film from Tamil cinema and the fans have pinned high hopes on this mega entertainer. This magnum opus is Mani Ratnam's ambitious project and after being in the making for 3 years, the film is now getting ready for its release. Ponniyn Selvan is a two part film and the first part will be hitting the screens on September 30 and it will be released in 5 different languages - Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Details regarding the release plans of the second part are yet to be known.

Ponniyin Selvan features Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles while the supporting cast includes the likes of Sarath Kumar, R Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Lal, Jayaram, Mohan Raman, Aadukalam Kishore, Rahman, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jaya Chitra, Arjun Chidambaram, Riyaz Khan, Ashwin Kakumanu, and others. Chiyaan Vikram will be essaying the character of Aditya Karikalan, while Karthi and Jayam Ravi would be playing Vanthiya Thevan and the titular character Ponniyin Selvan respectively. Trisha plays Kundhavai and Aishwarya Rai plays Nandini.

That being said, the makers have now released a new video and in this video, we see historians and acclaimed writers talk about the titular character - Ponniyin Selvan who later became the great Raja Raja Cholan. The experts explain how Arun Mozhi Varman became the Raja Raja Cholan and the video gives an interesting sneak peek into the iconic character. Jayam Ravi plays the character in the film and it is going to be interesting to see how he has approached the role.

The teaser of Ponniyin Selvan that released a few days back opened to a rousing reception from the film buffs and the teaser has already crossed several million views on YouTube. One can surely expect Ponniyin Selvan to take a grand opening at the box office.
