Ponniyin Selvan has become a raging hit at the box office and it looks like there is no stopping the film from its phenomenal run. Very recently, the makers officially announced that the film has collected more than 300 crores at the worldwide box office, thereby becoming the sixth Tamil film to achieve the feat after Enthiran, Kabali, 2.0, Bigil, and Vikram. Following that, Ponniyin Selvan has now created one more box office record which has grabbed the attention on social media. Ponniyin Selvan which released in theatres amidst high expectations on September 30 completed it's one week of run yesterday (October 6).

At the end of the first week, Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 has become the all-time highest 1st week grosser in Tamil Nadu. It has become the #1 highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu, pushing other films back. This tells us that the film has a great hold at the Tamil Nadu box office and this momentum shall continue until the Diwali weekend. The film will have a comfortable run with houseful shows for the next two weeks and more such records shall be created in the days to come. With this film, Mani Ratnam has broken the myth about the commercial success of his films.

The film has grabbed the attention of family audiences and several senior citizens are coming to the theatres to catch the visual version of their favourite novel. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies, Ponniyin Selvan has music composed by A.R.Rahman. Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles and an ensemble supporting cast including the likes of Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Lal, Jayaram, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Rahman, Riyaz Khan, Kishore, Sarah Arjun, Jaya Chitra, and others. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is scheduled for its grand theatrical release in May or June 2023.
