The Lyricist Ilango Krishnan gave an exclusive interview to Galatta media and shared interesting insights about songs and working with A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam. When asked what kind of inputs director Mani Ratnam gave for the lyrics. The lyricist said “The whole project is his vision. Nothing will happen without him in the film. Even a small bit will have the vision and be approved by him. That is the way he would be involved in everything. For the songs, It is tough to write songs for Mani Ratnam sir. He would ask for more and more options. He won’t say no or say that it's bad to the face. But, he could say it in a diplomatic way. 'This is nice let’s keep it but shall we try it this way', that is the way he will ask. If we say a line for a tune then he would say 'the poetry is nice, can you change the phrase? Because as a phrase it's not good'. He would then say that the poetry and the phrase are good but the sound is not great. He would say 'it won’t be pleasant, can you bring a pleasant sound to it'. Then, he would say 'they all are nice but, can you bring an older version of the Tamil to it' That is the way he will work with us." said the Lyricist Ilango Krishnan. Here's the full interview video:
