Legends of Indian Cinema
A series of six books written on Sivaji Ganesan, Guru Dutt, Mehboob Khan, P.C. Barua, Shammi Kapoor, and Sohrab Modi was launched on August 11th at Sathyam Cinemas. Aptly named 'Legends of Indian Cinema', the series will serve as an introduction to the younger audience about the doyens who sculpted Indian Cinema.
Producer A.V.M. Saravanan released the books and the elite guests at the function – Balu Mahendra, K. Bhagyaraj, Theodore Bhaskaran, Aruna Vasudeva, Shobit Arya, Yuhi Sethu – received the first copies.
Eminent film historian Theodore Bhaskaran has written one of the books in this series – Sivaji Ganesan – which gathered every one’s attention. He was exalted by the eminent guests for his effort. While speaking on the occasion, Bhaskaran said that cinema formed an important and integral segment in the history of people’s culture, but sadly, it is often ignored.
The book launch function turned out to be a nostalgic event when the guests reminisced about Sivaji Ganesan and his virtues. Balu Mahendra told everyone how much he admired the idol. K. Bhagyaraj, the king of wit, had the audience in splits when he narrated some funny incidents while filming Thavani Kanavugal with Sivaji Ganesan. He described Sivaji as a humble, strong, punctual, and dedicated person.
The other five books and their authors (in brackets) are as follows: Guru Dutt (Rashmi Doraiswamy), Sohrab Modi (Amrit Gangar), Mehboob Khan (Rauf Ahmed), Shammi Kapoor (Deepa Gahlot), and P.C. Barua (Shoma A. Chaterji).
