'Superstar' Rajinikanth is kicking off 2024 with Lal Salaam opening in cinemas worldwide on February 9. The upcoming sports drama film starring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth who are cast in the lead roles has been directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth and features music composed Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman, with the songs released receiving a positive response. Lal Salaam, which revolves around cricket and politics, will showcase Rajinikanth in a special appearance as Moideen bhai, with the film's trailer now out and giving viewers a glimpse at the exciting action both on and off the cricket field and the intense political drama surrounding it.
The Lal Salaam trailer predominantly focuses on communal clashes in a small village in Tamil Nadu due to a temple car. We also see Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth as aspiring cricketers despite often going up against each other. The Lal Salaam trailer then goes on to introduce Rajinikanth as Moideen bhai; an influential and powerful man from Bombay playing peacemaker. The visuals in the trailer indicate that the film will be both high on entertainment, while also putting the spotlight on the violence caused by communal riots. Lal Salaam will see Rajinikanth, Vishnu Vishal, and Vikranth alongside Senthil, Jeevitha, Thambi Ramaiah, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Vivek Prasanna, and Thangadurai, among others appearing in pivotal roles.
The buzz surrounding Lal Salaam has been huge right from the get-go as it is Aishwarya Rajinikanth's big comeback to filmmaking after 3 (2012), Vai Raja Vai (2015), and the documentary Cinema Veeran (2017), and also marks the first time that Rajinikanth is starring in her film after he previously headlined his younger daughter Soundarya's directorial, Kochadaiiyaan (2014). The highly-anticipated film will also see 1983 World Cup-winning captain and legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev making a cameo appearance and the pictures of him alongside Rajinikanth have gotten fans mighty excited.
