Kapil Dev's advice to Sreesanth
Known for his antics on the cricket field, Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth is also famous for his off-field activities, such as dancing, ad films and video albums apart from his endorsements in cricket.
Last year, he launched a video album ‘Jaago India’ in September, to boost the Indian team for the Twenty20 World Cup. The songs in the album were penned by Sreesanth himself and sung by his brother-in-law Madhu Balakrishnan, a well-known South Indian singer.
There are some reports that Sreesanth had been offered the role of a cricketer in a Malayalam film with superstar Mammootty in the lead role. This proposed film, to be produced by Alvin Antony and Khader Mayyazhi and directed by Aashiq Abu, an assistant to veteran director Kamal, is likely to start within a few months.
Former all-rounder Kapil Dev is not happy about Sreesanth's off-field activities. During his recent visit to Kerala, India’s World Cup winning cricket team captain (1983) advised this young fast bowler to concentrate more on the game rather than activities off the field.
“I think he is an entertainer, I love him. But I think he should not forget he is representing the country. Entertainment is a part of our life and sports itself is entertainment. But he should not forget the basic duty to perform on the ground, on cricket. He should come back to cricket and try to do more cricket than other things,” Kapil Dev told a news conference in Thiruvananthapuram. Sreesanth is not in the current Indian team which is visiting Sri Lanka for three tests and five ODI matches.
