Kantara hit the screens on 30 September 2022 and received critical acclaim from fans and critics alike, who praised the cast performances, direction, writing, production design, cinematography, proper showcasing of the Bhoota Kola, action sequences, editing, soundtrack, and the wonderful musical score given by B. Ajaneesh Loknath. The movie also fared equally well in its dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil. Kantara is an action thriller that revolves around Bhootha Kola, a traditional dance for the deity. Rishab Shetty recently hinted that the film may get a sequel. He further indicated that he will work on the same after taking a short break from work.
Set in a fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, Kantara brings alive the traditional culture of Kambla and Bhootha Kola. It is believed that Demigods are the guardians and their energies encircle the village. In the story, there is a ripple when a battle of ego swirls among the traditions and culture of the land. In a conflict between humanity and nature, Shiva is in rebellion and working against the latter. He engages in intense conflicts which leads up to a war between the villagers and evil forces.
