Kanja Karuppu: Nearing a milestone
The prefix of Kanja to his name Karuppu was inevitable after the popularity of the character on the masses. Pithamagan was a dream start for Karuppu Raja (his real name) but the movie which catapulted him to fame was Ram.
There was no looking back for Karuppu after these back-to-back successes. Nearing the coveted century mark, Karuppu said it is a satisfying feeling to have acheived it. “From nobody to somebody, it is all due to Bala and Ameer,” says Karuppu with gratitude.
To lock horns again with Ameer (as actor) in Yogi has been a great feeling for Karuppu. “Movies with Ameer are special for the simple reason that the characters speak for themselves,” Karuppu says with a glint in his eyes.
Proded on his desire to turn hero, Karuppu hastily parries away the question. “I had a feeling of that in Arain En 305 Kadavul but the risk factor is too high for a producer. As an actor, I would not like to let down my producer. It makes sense sticking to tried-and-trusted character roles,” Karuppu said.
What is the USP of his success? “Well, it has to be my dialogue delivery and the lucky factor of my character gelling with the script,” Karuppu hits the nail on the head.
