The results of Lok Sabha 2019 elections were declared yesterday (May 23) and Narendra Modi was once again elected as the Prime Minister of India, for the second time. Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam contested in all the 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, but ended up not winning in any constituency.
But, a relatively new party of that cadre, the number of votes has indeed shown a great promise and the political experts believe that the people of Tamil Nadu, especially the youngsters, have found an alternate option for the two Dravidian parties. MNM secured third place in around 13 constituencies. Everyone were waiting for Kamal Haasan to come out and speak and the awaited moment has finally come.
The Dasavatharam actor met the press and media this morning to address the people of Tamil Nadu. He said the results are indeed positive for his party as they received votes more than what they actually expected. He said, "My wishes and congratulations to Narendra Modi for the victory and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for the win in Tamil Nadu. I have to wish them for their performance on the political grounds. MNM has an even more important responisibility.
A baby (MNM), that is just 14 months old, has got so many votes in the most honest form with no influence of money. The numbers are more than what we actually expected. Thank you to all the people who voted for our party without expecting any commercial returns from us. We have been receiving praises from various corners and it has made us realise the importance of our party. This result has given us the confidence that we are travelling in the right path.
We aren't devastated or feeling bad about the result, and indeed, we are happy about it only. Nowhere else in the country, has a party that is just a year and a few months old, has got these many votes and support. We are going to work even more extensively to elaborate and expand our works. This shows us that we are slowly growing among the people of Tamil Nadu. We are the ATM for honesty."
