Leading Tamil actor Karthi attended a private college's cultural event in Chennai recently where he went on to reveal the shooting plans for the tentatively titled Kaithi 2. The Ponniyin Selvan star attended the college ceremony as the Chief Guest and addressed queries from students, including one about the sequel to the blockbuster Kaithi (2019) directed by celebrated filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. Amidst loud cheers, Karthi spoke a popular dialogue from Kaithi, while revealing that filming on Kaithi 2 will begin in 2025 and declared that his character, "Dilli will be back!"

All sights will now be set on Lokesh Kanagaraj to complete his next big film, the tentatively titled Thalaivar 171 with 'Superstar' Rajinikanth, which is expected to begin principal photography in the months ahead after which the hit director and Karthi will be reuniting for their Kaithi 2.

There has been tremendous buzz surrounding Kaithi 2 since the release of Kaithi, with Karthi's character Dilli making a voice-over cameo in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram (2022) starring 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, and included a powerful guest appearance as by Suriya as Rolex. The inclusion of Karthi's voice-over in Vikram established the concept of a connected universe, which was labeled as the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), with 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Leo (2023) also featuring a few actors from the previous Lokesh Kanagaraj directorials.
With Kaithi 2 set to continue Lokesh Kanagaraj's story of the LCU, the wait is now on for what the filmmaker and Karthi are planning, with various fan theories contemplating appearances by stars like Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil, and even 'Thalapathy' Vijay as Leo once again despite announcing his plans to bid farewell from cinema after Thalapathy 69 for his political journey. Meanwhile, Karthi is at present busy filming two films back-to-back starting with the tentatively titled Karthi 26, which is being directed by Nalan Kumarasamy of Soodhu Kavvum (2013) and Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum (2016) fame and Karthi 27 under filmmaker Prem Kumar's direction, who impressed audiences with 96 (2018).
