We are just a day away from what is perhaps the biggest release of this year in the form of ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth’s Kaala hitting screens worldwide tomorrow.
Having said that, this Pa. Ranjith directorial produced under Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films banner has been embroiled in a bit of a controversy after Kaala's release in Karnataka has been a big subject of debate over the past few days.
The issue came to light when Rajinikanth had in a statement few days back said a Cauvery Management Board ought to be formed.
In response, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce had stated Rajinikanth should take back his words and rather than taking a stand, he should have suggested both governments should discuss for a solution.
In the meantime, Rajinikanth had interacted with the press today (June 6) morning before leaving for Dehradun to begin production for his next film, Thalaivar 165, under Karthik Subbaraj’s direction being produced by Sun Pictures.
Rajinikanth stated, "There are many who are protesting the release of Kaala in Karnataka. I just wish to state that the setting up of a Cauvery Management Board is the order of the Supreme Court and I only reiterated the same words. I do not understand what can be wrong in that. Banning a film for this particular reason just doesn’t feel right to me."
He then added, "I also find it appalling that the Karnataka Film Chamber is voicing support for this considering the duty of any Film Chamber is to ensure producers and distributors do not face hardships. However, supporting such a ban just doesn’t feel right at all."
Rajinikanth concluded saying, "Kaala is set to release worldwide and if it doesn’t come out in Karnataka based on these reasons, it won’t give the state a good image. I do realize the situation Karnataka Chief Minister Kumarasamy is in and believe he will pave way for a smooth release."
