The Galatta Nakshatra Awards 2023 held grandly at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on November 30 turned out to be a massive success as fans got to witness several leading names from film and television being celebrated on the big stage. Among the leading names who graced the star-studded event was blockbuster Tamil director Nelson Dilipkumar, who was honored with the 'Trendsetter of South Indian Cinema' award, which was presented by acclaimed filmmaker Mari Selvaraj and Mr. Ponnusamy Karthik. A, Founder & Chairman of Namma Family Builder & Developer Pvt. Ltd.
Expressing his joy at being honored as the 'Trendsetter of South Indian Cinema' at the Galatta Nakshatra Awards 2023, Nelson Dilipkumar said, "Thank you for this recognition. Galatta has honored me right from the time I made my debut. This is a big distinction and I don't know whether I'm worthy of it, but anyway, thank you. First and foremost, I would like to thank Rajini sir because it was his confidence and charisma that pushed this film to great heights. Next, I would like to convey my gratitude to Sun Pictures and Kalanithi Maran sir, Anirudh, and all the actors and technicians who were a part of the film since it is their collective effort that has made this victory possible."
Having set a new trend with each of his films starting from his Kolamaavu Kokila with 'Lady Superstar' Nayanthara, Doctor with Sivakarthikeyan, Beast with 'Thalapathy' Vijay, and Jailer with 'Superstar' Rajinikanth, Nelson Dilipkumar stated that there's no big secret to his writing process. Speaking at the Galatta Nakshatra Awards 2023, the hit director said, "I try to do something different. When I watch Lokesh Kanagaraj's films, there's an out-of-the-box content. And, I too try to emulate something similar and sometimes it might not work out. I guess time has favored me this time and things have worked out for me." Upon being queried about his next film, Nelson said, "As of now, I'm still writing and maybe there will be an announcement in a month."
Nelson Dilipkumar also spoke about receiving the 'Trendsetter of South Indian Cinema' accolade from filmmaker Mari Selvaraj at the Galatta Nakshatra Awards 2023 and said, "I feel happy to get this award from him because he would call me every day after watching Jailer. He would also scare me and sometimes make me wonder whether he was praising the film or not. But, he would always give me support and he was the first to respond after watching the film."
Mari Selvaraj too chimed in with his thoughts and shared his fondness for Nelson Dilipkumar saying he possesses energy similar to how one would feel seeing actor-comedian Vadivelu. Recalling their first meeting at actor Kavin's wedding, the Maamannan director said, "My family would be watching the TV, and promos of him speaking would be telecast. People will watch songs. But, will anybody watch promos repeatedly? My mother once told me to talk like him during interviews and not angrily the way I speak. I can't make films like he does. My family tells me to handle interviews like he does and point out examples of how he interacts with the media and handles the questions that come his way. In a way, I've earned a bad name in my family because of him. But, he's a friend who created a close relationship during our first meeting and interaction."
