In a shocking incident, moviegoers in Kanpur turned violent during a screening of the Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 on Thursday, August 17. The sequel to the blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) has been witnessing a phenomenal turnout in theatres across the country, with the latest incident at the South X Kanpur cinema hall now grabbing the headlines. According to reports, a section of the audience watching Gadar 2 had raised complaints regarding the poor air conditioning in the cinema hall where they were allegedly beaten up by bouncers.
The conflict began after several audience members raised their concerns about the air conditioning system in the theatre after which the bouncers in the venue physically assaulted those who voiced their grievances. The violent incident captured on videos has gone viral on social media, with reports stating that Mithilesh Gupta, the president of the Uttar Pradesh Dal Mill Association, too was present at the Gadar 2 screening with his family at the cinema hall. He claimed that the bouncers beat up the people watching the Sunny Deol-starrer, with authorities soon after intervening and pacifying the agitated crowd. The issue has been addressed by the Kanpur Police Commissionerate and a case has since been registered under relevant sections of the law, and legal action is currently underway.
