With Super Bowl LVI kicking off strong, the live sporting event nearly brings 100 million people to tune in every year. It's an American tradition, but what's also become just as big a tradition as the game itself is anticipating big Hollywood movie trailers, which are released during this mega event that trot out in front of TV's biggest audience. Released during the Super Bowl kickoff show on Sunday, Disney's new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises even more of the breathtaking imagery found in the first Doctor Strange film, while also dialing up the multiverse shenanigans to 11 because 10 just wasn't enough. An accompanying poster of the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer was also released.
Revealing some exciting details regarding its story and characters, the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer shows the multiverse growing in prominence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The upcoming sequel to the 2016 superhero film will place the concept front and center once more, continuing story threads from its predecessor and Spider-Man: No Way Home, as well as the MCU’s Disney+ shows. The actual plot is still pretty vague, although clearly Benedict Cumberbatch's Strange teams up with Wanda Maximoff aka. Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Olsen to try and fix some kind of damage to the multiverse.
The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer promises not only monsters and Doctor Strange variants, but also at least one familiar face from another Marvel film franchise. A voice is heard and it most certainly sounds like it is Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X from the X-Men franchise. There have been rumors suggesting that X-Men characters may debut in MCU with the Multiverse of Madness. If the leaks are true, we may even see Tom Cruise as Iron Man. With Scott Derrickson opting out of his directorial duties due to creative differences with Marvel Studios, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is helmed by OG Marvel director Sam Raimi, the man behind the Evil Dead franchise and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films. He is a man who can be trusted to handle a big-scale project like this given his creative flair with films and how they are executed.
