Director Shankar is celebrating his 50th birthday today.
Known to be a humble person, Shankar is regarded as a pioneer in directing big budget movies. He made is directorial debut with Gentleman which is still considered as one of the evergreen movies in Kollywood history. He bagged the Filmfare Best Director Award for the same film.
He then went on to make cult movies like Indian and Jeans which were submitted by India for the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. Some of his blockbuster movies are Kadhalan, Anniyan, Sivaji, Enthiran and Nanban.
The director is eagerly waiting to release his upcoming movie Ai which stars Vikram and Amy Jackson in the lead roles.
