A few days back, there were rumours that said that the project is dropped and there would be a change in director. However, director Nelson and Rajinikanth indirectly denied the news by updating their Twitter bio and header picture respectively. Thalaivar 169 is very much on with Nelson and the star filmmaker is currently giving final touches to the script and is in the process of finalising the cast.

Anirudh Ravichander will be scoring music for this action drama that will be bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures on a grand scale. The shooting of the film is expected to begin from July, targetting an early 2023 release. An official word on the same is awaited.
