EXCLUSIVE: Ajith worked day and night continuously for 7 days without any break for this film!
Varalaru is an important film in Ajith’s career and it showed the star actor in a completely different dimension. Ajith’s performance was raved by the audience and he featured in triple action in the film. The film was directed by K.S.Ravikumar and had music by A.R.Rahman. In a recent live interaction with Galatta Media, director K.S.Ravikumar shared some interesting information about Varalaru. He said that the film ran into unnecessary production delays due to some misunderstanding between Ajith and the film’s producer S.S.Chakravarthy (Nic Arts).
However, he was all praise for Ajith’s impeccable dedication to complete the film. He said, “It was initially titled Godfather, but later we changed it to Varalaru since the title had to be in Tamil. After the second schedule, there was an unexpected gap and during that break, I went and finished Saravana (with STR). Varalaru is a film that’s very close to my heart. The outline of the film was inspired from Sivaji sir’s Deivamagan.
There were some problems and misunderstandings between Ajith and the producer and the issue went to the Federation and that process consumed a lot of time. So, we had to face a big gap. After sorting out the problems, Ajith told me that he’d give 7 days of callsheet to complete the remaining portions, but I told him that I need 15 days since there are a lot of important scenes to be shot.
Also, we had to shoot scenes for all the three characters and doing it in 7 days wasn’t possible. Ajith told me that he will work day and night for the 7 days continuously and help us complete the project and as said, he worked tirelessly for all the seven days without any rest. We will not be normal if we didn’t sleep for two or three days, but this man was awake for seven days continuously (with minimal breaks) and shot for us. He never troubled us in the set because of the problems he had with that producer and he was a complete professional.
His dedication, that too, after becoming a star, was very appreciable. I wanted to show Varalaru to my father, but during the delay in the production, he passed away and I couldn’t show it to him. 2005 was a bad year for me. Varalaru had production issues, my father died and two to three films of mine got dropped for various reasons.” You can watch the full interview of K.S.Ravikumar below:
