Vaathi/Sir is a super-hit film starring Dhanush in the lead role that was released in cinemas worldwide on February 17. It was the first bilingual film of Dhanush that was released in Tamil and Telugu. The film created a huge buzz among fans as it was the first released for Dhanush after the hit film Naane Varuvaen was released last year and because the actor takes up the role of a teacher for the first time. It was directed by Venky Atluri who has predominantly worked in Telugu language films and last directed the films Tholi Prema and Rang De. The film was produced by Naga Vamsi under the banner of Sithara Entertainment.

The film is running successfully in theatres after release. The makers of Vaathi/Sir revealed recently that the film entered the Rs.100 crore club. Movie-goers and fans of the Two-time National Award-winning star Dhanush celebrated the film in theatres. The Television and post-theatrical OTT streaming rights of the film were bagged by Sun Network and Netflix. The global streaming platform OTT has now made a special announcement that the film will make its OTT premiere on March 17. Fans and movie buffs can enjoy the commercial entertainer again when it's released on Netflix.

Vaathi set in the 1990s and revolves around the education system, especially Government Schools. The film has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar and as successful duo of Dhanush and GV Prakash collaborate again after Polladhavan, Aadhukalam Mayakkam Enna, Asuran and Maaran. The film had some chart-topping songs and the video songs from the film can be expected soon. It had Samuktha as the female lead with a supporting cast featuring Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Motta Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi and Praveena in supporting roles.
