The Chief Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu, K. Shanmugam, issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, saying all private colleges and schools in the state will not compel students or parents to pay the fee for the next academic year, 2020-21, or the pending dues for the academic year, 2019-20, or levy any penalty for any delay, during the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown period. The order comes after it was brought to the notice of the Tamil Nadu government that private colleges and schools were demanding fees from parents in the coronavirus lockdown period. Below is TN govt's order directed to private schools and colleges in the state:
Life has come to a complete standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic across the world including Tamil Nadu, which on Tuesday saw 76 confirmed new coronavirus cases with the state's total rising to 1,596 people affected by the fatal disease. One person has been reported to have succumbed to the COVID-19 virus today taking the total death toll in the state to 18 people dying after being infected by the disease. The day had one good news as 178 people were confirmed to have recovered and discharged with the total number of recovered cases going up to 635.
