Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday criticized Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the leaders of his YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for their statements against 'Superstar' Rajinikanth. The former CM took to social media and declared the veteran Tamil actor to be an embodiment of sincerity, honor, and modesty, while saying that he is a beloved name in India and around the world. Chandrababu Naidu wrote on Twitter, "Strongly condemn the demeaning & derogatory comments made by YSRCP leaders against the legendary superstar @rajinikanth, who is an epitome of honesty, integrity, and humility. Rajinikanth has a heart of gold and is much loved by all in India and across the globe. The organised attack unleashed on him by @ysjagan’s crooked gang is a sign of desperation and shows that YSRCP is losing its ground. People will teach them a befitting lesson. #TeluguPeopleWithRajinikanth". Check out the tweet below:

The controversy began after Rajinikanth attended the birth centenary celebrations of TDP founder NT Rama Rao held at Vijayawada on April 28 where he praised the Chandrababu Naidu. The Tamil actor praised the Telugu leader for his vision and efforts to make Hyderabad a global hub during his tenure as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Rajinikanth's statements didn't go well with YSRCP leaders, who came down heavily on him, among whom included tourism minister R. K. Roja, who labeled his comments as ridiculous. Minister for Water Resources Ambati Rambabu called out Rajinikanth and stated that he was a coward, who announced his political entry, but eventually backed out. Likewise, YSRCP MLA Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Nani) said that the actor was a zero in Andhra Pradesh despite being a hero in Tamil Nadu.
The statements against Rajinikanth took a big turn and the actor's fans soon began trending the hashtag #YSRCPapologiseRajini on Twitter and other social networking forums. Several fans extended their support to the actor and said that he was only talking about his relationship with NTR and Chandrababu Naidu, and never insulted anyone.
