CC2C angers Nepal
Chandni Chowk To China (CC2C) is again in the news for the wrong reasons. It has angered Nepal for its false and misleading references about the Buddha and his origin. Enraged Nepalese students staged a protest and tore off the film's posters in front of Kathmandu's popular Jai Cinema hall. Owing tothis protest, authorities have shelved the screening of the film there.
The furore is over a false comment in the movie about the birthplace of the Buddha which says that the Buddha was born in India while the Buddha'sactual birthplace is Lumbini in southern Nepal. Lumbini is a sacred pilgrim spot which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. This erroneous mention of the Buddha's birthplace has instigated the protest against the movie.
Though Nepal's Censor Board has ordered the offending scene to be cut while screening the movie and though thescene was removed by Jai Cinema, word spread and triggered public uproar.
It is reported that the protesters are intent on boycotting the film. The member of the Nepal Film Development Board and the Chief of the Nepal Director's Association, K.P. Pathak, is also said to be supportive of this protest.
With CC2C considered a big letdown in India, will this newsintensify the blues of Nikhil Advani and his team? Or will this notoriety bring in more audiences elsewhere?Wait and see!
