Among the leading celebrities who paid their tributes to Vijayakanth was Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, who highlighted the Tamil cinema stalwart's efforts to see that the people working in his films are served the same quality of food that he eats during shooting. In a heartfelt statement on X, A. R. Rahman also wrote that it is touching for him to witness everyone praising Vijayakanth as a philanthropist who strove to provide the same food for everyone during the shooting of his films.

Rahman's latest statement sheds light on the actor's earnest efforts. It is also well-known that Vijayakanth made sure that the people who visited his office would be served food for free, with 'Captain' often stressing the importance of how nobody should leave his premises hungry. Vijayakanth, fondly addressed as 'Captain' by his ardent fans everywhere, was admitted to the MIOT Hospital in the city on Tuesday and was put on ventilatory support following complications of pneumonia. Having launched the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party in 2005, the actor-politician's demise came as a big shock earlier in the day, which was announced by MIOT Hospital in a medical bulletin that read, " 'Captain' Vijayakanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he passed away in the morning on 28th December 2023."
