Black Adam is the newest upcoming superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Produced under the banners of New Line Cinema, DC Films, Seven Bucks Productions, and FlynnPictureCo., it is intended to be the 11th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, the film features Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in the eponymous role alongside Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
The second official trailer for Black Adam burst out of the gates recently and it is arguably the best one yet, giving the DC antihero more of a true villain bent. Doctor Fate, played by Pierce Brosnan, appears to lead the Justice Society of America which comprises of other superheroes such as Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) in order to take Black Adam down.
The 2 minutes and 41 seconds trailer also features Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) who is known from the Suicide Squad series. Davis last appeared in the DC Universe's Peacemaker, a spinoff series from 2021's The Suicide Squad. This DC's version of Nick Fury is a ruthless intelligence officer and head of Task Force X, aka the Suicide Squad, who unlike Fury is happy to execute anyone who defies her orders. Like Samuel L. Jackson's character, the driving force behind the creation of The Avengers, Davis has made appearances across multiple films.
Black Adam follows the antihero after he is released from 5000 years of imprisonment. The Justice Society of America joins hands to stop his rampage and to teach him how to be more hero than villain, before teaming up to tackle an even more powerful destructive force.
Black Adam is all set for a theatrical release on 21 October 2022.
