Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha's latest film, Bheed, is out in theatres and has received acclaim as some of his previous ventures that include Mulk, Article 15, and Thappad. Prior to his critically-acclaimed ventures over the last few years, the hit Hindi director had directed the Bollywood sci-fi film, Ra. One, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Arjun Rampal, which went on to become a box office blockbuster, but received polarized critical response. Speaking to National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, Anubhav Sinha opened up on the renewed love for Ra. One and its visual effects, which were done by Red Chillies VFX, owned by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan.
Explaining how the feelings of the fans towards Ra. One has changed nearly 12 years after its release, Anubhav Sinha said, "At some event, Shah Rukh jokingly said that the film flopped. So, that day it sank in that the film flopped. And, I moved on from that point. I hated the moment, but I moved on from there. Then, five-six years later, most of the portals called it a hit. So, that gave me happiness. But, the real surprise has come over the last three-four years that every time a visual effects film shows up, Ra.One starts trending on Twitter. And, people start sending me tweets. So, it probably blossomed a little late. Now, people talk about Ra. One with reasonable amount of respect. Those were those Blackberry days where I got a lot of flak."
Made in black and white, Anubhav Sinha's Bheed is set during the events of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown in India and stars Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza, Ashutosh Rana, Pankaj Kapur and Kritika Kamra. Earlier this year, the Article 15 director also produced Hansal Mehta's Faraaz and is next bankrolling Sudhir Mishra's Afwaah, which has Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles.
