The long wait has finally come to an end - the highly-anticipated trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to the 2009 global blockbuster Avatar, is out now and looks nothing short of spectacular. Announced to open in theatres worldwide on December 16, 2022, the upcoming epic science fiction film directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron has been long in the making and is worth the wait after a viewing of the first solid visuals from the trailer. Avatar 2, as it was being called up until a few days before the title Avatar: The Way of Water was officially revealed at CinemaCon 2022, will serve as the first of the four planned sequels after Cameron spent more than a decade writing and working on the technology for the next films in the franchise.
The Avatar: The Way of Water trailer starts off with viewers being transported to the planet Pandora and reintroducing Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) nearly after a decade who are now married with children, with the visuals also giving us a glimpse at an impending danger from humans. We also see the Na'vi race coming together once again after 2009's Avatar and that also includes some assistance from other humans. One thing Cameron has done with the Avatar: The Way of Water trailer is that he hasn’t tried too hard to sell the film, while instead delivering on the spectacle that fans can witness when it arrives on the big screen later this year.
Avatar: The Way of Water will see Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana sharing screen space with Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald who as well are reprising their roles from the original film, with Sigourney Weaver also returning in a different role, while Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Jemaine Clement, and CJ Jones are the new cast members.
