Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is a movie that the whole country has been waiting for for quite some time now. This upcoming epic period action film has been directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The film the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. 

The makers of the film recently dropped the official lyric video of the song Alaikadal and it is phenomenal. This beautiful song featuring Karthi and Aishwarya Lakshmi has been sung by Antara Nandi. The lyrics were penned by Siva Ananth and composed by Siva Anand. AR Rahman has composed the music.

Ponniyin Selvan features a stellar ensemble cast consisting of Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R. Parthiban. The film's cinematography has been handled by Ravi Varman, editing done by A. Sreekar Prasad and production design by Thota Tharani.

 

Ponniyin Selvan tells the story of early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I. The film has been scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 30.
