Mission Mangal will essay the story of scientists at ISRO who contributed to India's first interplanetary expedition, Mars Orbiter Mission. The mission was launched on November 5th, 2013 and the principal photography of the movie began on the very date, 2018. The movie's star cast includes Akshay Kumar, Vidhya Balan, Nithya Menen, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Sharman Joshi and Kriti Kulhari.

And this afternoon, 4th of July, Akshay Kumar penned an emotional note to the public. He wrote, " #MissionMangal , a film which I hope will inspire as much as entertain. A film which I’ve done specially for my daughter and children her age to familiarise them with the incredible true story of India’s mission to Mars! @FoxStarHindi #HopePictures #JaganShakti @isro". Having been bankrolled by Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions and Fox Star Studios, Mission Mangal is directed by Jagan Shakti, AR Murugadoss' assistant. With tunes composed by Amit Trivedi and camera cranked by Ravi Varman, the movie is edited byChandan Arora. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the team are planning to release the movie on 15th of August.
