Maamannan is the next big project of Udhayanidhi Stalin that also has veteran actor ‘Vaigai Puyal' Vadivelu in an important role. It is helmed by director Mari Selvaraj and also has music composed by A.R. Rahman. Ahead of the release of the film, Udhayanidhi Stalin gave an exclusive interview with Galatta Media and shared some exacting details about the project. When asked if he felt insecure at any time, the actor said he was afraid before they began shooting.

Udhayanidhi Stalin then revealed how the huge cast came together and said the director Mari Selvaraj told him the story and said 'Vaigai Puyal' Vadivelu would be perfect for the father role. He said “Nobody would have thought about it because it's been a long time since he (Vadivelu) had done a role like this. I thought we will ask him and I called Vadivelu's brother and he was sigining in comedy films at that time. I asked him to watch Pariyerum Perumal and Karan”. The actor said that he convinced Vadivelu that this could be his last film and asked him to hear the story. The actor then said Vadivelu replies to him and asked if he heard the story and said “if you are ok with the story then I am ok". Then, he said that "Mari sir said Fahad Faasil would be nice if he did the opposite role". Udhayanidhi Stalin revealed that the Malayalam actor agreed without hearing the story.
Udhayanidhi Stalin explained that Mari Selvaraj's choice of music composer was Santhosh Narayanan but they roped in A.R. Rahman because the actor wanted to work with the composer for at least one film. He said “I first introduced them in a Zoom call during lockdown and told him it's my last film". He said himself and Keerthy Suresh wanted to do a film for a long time and she agreed immediately because of the director. He further said “Every character will have equal importance."
