Varalaxmi Sarathkumar made her mark in the film industry and has grown to become a leading actress in the Tamil Film Industry since her debut in Podaa Podi. The actress has has done many bold and antagonistic roles in Tamil language films and has acted in some films in Tollywood and Sandalwood. Her recent film, Kondraal Paavam, the actress stars alongside Cooku With Comali fame Santhosh Prathap. The film is directed by Dayal Padmanaban, who has directed and written many Kannada language films and has also won state awards. It has music composed by the talented Sam CS. The thriller was released in theatres today.

Galatta Media organised a fan meet where Varalaxmi Sarathkumar shared some interesting details about her acting and personal experiences. During the interview, the host asked about her experience playing the Villain role opposite 'Thalapathy' Vijay in Sarkar. The actress said "When I hear the work action! I will go into a trance and so I don't mind who I am working with". The actress got candid and said during a scene in which there was a important conversation scene between 'Thalapathy' Vijay and herself the chair fell in the first take and "we both laughed and it was really hard to finish the shooting that day because I couldn’t control my laughter." Talking about dressing up for more glamorous roles. Varalaxmi said "I only focuses on the character and that I will do what the role demands".
When asked if she know that she is being called lady Vijay Sethupathi. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar said She knowns that fans call her Makkal Selvi and call Vijay Sethupathi as Makkal Selvan. “It's nice to be called that and I think it's because we both experiment with all roles", said the versatile actress.
