2018 is one of the highest Grossing Malayalam films of all time that has become a topic of discussion. The film was released in other languages than Malayalam including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi across India on 26th May. The Malayalam film was the fastest to gross Rs.100 crores mark. The film revolves around the floods that happened in Kerala in 2018 and has Tovino Thomas, Kunchako Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Narein, Lal, Indrans, Sudheesh, and others in important roles. On the day of the release of the film 2018 in Tamil, the lead actor Tovino Thomas and the director Jude Anthany Joseph interacted with the audience in a theatre.
2018 team, Actor Tovino Thomas, director Jude Anthany Joseph and actor Sudheesh gave an exclusive interview to Galatta media and shared their experience about the film. When asked about the phone call from sough-after director Lokesh Kanagaraj, The actor Tovino Thomas said “Oh yeah, he called me up after Thallumaala. It was very unexpected, and to get appreciation from someone like that means a lot, He took his time and he appreciated it." As the anchor told him to do a film with the Leo director. He said “Surely, I would love to work with him, But the movies which he is doing are big and I am a little bit busy, definitely it will happen. He told me he wanted to call me after Minnal Murali itself but after Thallumaala he couldn’t stop himself from calling. He appreciated the whole team and said he loved the way it was made. Of course, Thallumaala was technically very solid and very different from other movies which I had done."
When asked what inspired them to make the film 2018. The director Jude Anthany Joseph said "It was the floods. My house was flooded and I was in a negative state at that time. But, there is a NGO in Kerala and they asked me to do a 15-minute-long inspirational video. I did not follow any news, so, after that, I saw the news and YouTube videos and selected. Then, I realized there is a positive story in this that should be known to the world, so I tried it and I did not know it will become such a big success."
