Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president K. Annamalai on Tuesday, April 16, stated that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leaders are living in a "mystic world". Addressing the media, the Coimbatore MP candidate said the cadre in the AIADMK have quit the party and joined the BJP. Annamalai said, "The AIADMK party cadre have stepped out. The people in the villages have come and joined our party. Instead of saying they have joined the BJP, they have come to us for Modi. They have given us their support and are doing ground work. The people in the AIADMK are sitting inside an AC room and must step outside to see the reality. The loyal cadre in the AIADMK has understood that this is the national election and is to choose a Prime Minister. So, on the ground, the AIADMK votes are now out."
Annamalai further explained, "The AIADMK is living in a mystic world. Be it Edappadi K. Palaniswami or the senior leaders, they are still in the 1980s and 1990s. But, the strength of the BJP is visible everywhere and neutral voters have pledged their support for Modi. The party supporters are important, but one needs to see where the neutral voters are going. The neutral voters are showing their 100% support to the BJP and Modi." Speaking about the BJP's prospects in Tamil Nadu in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Annamalai asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance has a fixed target of securing 25 seats in the state. He said, "It's going to be a close fight in some constituencies, while it will be a three-cornered battle in the others. The BJP is expecting a favourable outcome."
Annamalai is contesting for the BJP in the Coimbatore constituency in the 2024 Indian general election. He is fielded against DMK's Ganapathi Rajkumar, who is representing the Opposition-led INDIA bloc, while the AIADMK has nominated Singai Ramachandran.
