"Tamil Nadu is number one in coronavirus relief efforts": CM Edappadi Palaniswami
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday during his briefing with the media said that Tamil Nadu is numero uno in efforts providing relief against the novel coronavirus in the nation. He also declared Salem district to be COVID-19-free and is holding discussions with administrative officials including the Collector regarding containment of the disease and provision of portable water. Chief Minister Palaniswami further stated that efforts are being taken by the state government for farmers in the state to be provided with free electricity.
The Tamil Nadu CM spoke about the rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Chennai and said that there is no community transmission in the city as yet. He added that the sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the city was as a result of the public not complying and adhering to the instructions given to them to curb the spread of the disease. CM Palaniswami did say that only a few zones have been showing a rise in the number of individuals infected by the disease. He then said that the state government is expecting to incur a loss of Rs. 35,000 crores for the GST during this lockdown period while concluding that the Centre is yet to provide the relief fund package completely, which is being provided on an installment basis for now.
