Veteran singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has been admitted to the MGM Healthcare after he was tested for the novel coronavirus a few days back. The hospital had released a statement on August 13th that SPB's health condition is critical and he had been shifted to the ICU. Following the shocking news, fans and leading celebrities including Dhanush, AR Rahman, Ilayaraaja, Haris Jayaraj took to social media to wish the star singer a speedy recovery. 

SPB's son SP Charan has been giving updates about his father's health on social media in a way avoid any rumours. SP Charan in his latest video stated, "There is a rumour going around that dad is off the ventilator - which is not true. We wish he could come on soon. He continues to be on the ventilator. He is been scrutinized by the doctor at the MGM Health centre. He is been taken care of really well. We are again confident and the prayers are working which are helping us and are helping him on his recovery path. Keep the prayers coming and we thank everyone as a family for all the love and concern. Keep them coming. Thank you so very much"


Earlier in a video, SP Charan spoke about his mother Savitri Balasubrahmanyam and said, "My mom is doing much better. She could be discharged on Tuesday or Wednesday. That is a good sign. I am sure my father will follow her back home as soon as he can."

SP Balasubrahmanyam has worked across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam film industries and has won six National Film Awards. He has also been honoured with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. Since his singing debut in 1966 with the Telugu film Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna, Balasubrahmanyam has recorded over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages.
